The Russian Fashion Blog Vintage Yudashkin

Vintage Yudashkin

I would like to share with you my fabulous vintage find. But first, let me tell you a story…

The very first issue of Russian Vogue was September, 1998. Earlier that year Valentin Yudashkin celebrated 10 (ten!) years of his fashion house.  He was strictly an haute couture designer from the very beginning and showed in Paris for the first time in 1991 (same year the Soviet Union dissolved).

To those of you whose feelings I’ve just hurt by admitting that such thing as haute couture is even possible in Russia: Yudashkin was the one and only Russian designer so far to become a correspondent member of Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture (in 1996). I guess he is not any more, but it is another thing.

Now you can turn the page…

This is the video of the earliest Valentin Yudashkin haute couture collection I could find on Youtube. It is spring – summer 1999 collection, called “The end of century”. Please be advised that video is 27 minutes long. My favorite looks are at 1:15, 2:40, 4:10, 10:53, 15:00, 17:25 and 22:32. Enjoy!
