Fashion Mid-Month Overview

Fashion Mid Month OverviewAs we are now in the middle of the Russian-Ukrainian fashion month, I would like to post an overview of what is happening right now in both countries.

Saint Petersburg, Russia

Defile Na Neve fashion week has just ended and, in my humble opinion, it was the worst one ever. Runway pictures here

Aurora Fashion Week is in full swing. Arngoldt, Kute, Cat’s Production, Kamenskayakononova have already showed. Videos of the shows, interviews and more are available at AFW Youtube channel.

As part of AFW, Fashionomica conference unrolled yesterday. This three-day event is intended to bridge the gap between Russian designers’ creativity and the buyers’ need for consistency and reliability. List of speakers includes Anna Oberhauser, director of Allessandro Dell’Acqua press service, Aurora Fiorentini, creator of a historical archive of GUCCI and Silva Nocentini, marketing consultant of Thom Browne, Marimekko, Brooks Brothers.

I’m impatiently waiting for the rest of the shows – Peter Petrov (Austria), Custo Barcelona (Spain), Sandra Straukaite (Lithuania), TOSHA (UK) and Bessarion (surprisingly, Russia).

Moscow, Russia

As we all know, Cycles and Seasons by MasterCard is a multifaceted event and though they have stellar runway shows,  that’s not all. So, while we are waiting for Nina Donis, Vika Gazinskaya, Vardoui Nazaryan and such to unveil their S/S 2012 collections,  the Out of Fashion film festival is getting a lot of attention because it is, actually, the special program of the 40th International Film Festival Rotterdam.

MBFWR is scheduled for October 21 – 25th and Volvo Fashion Week for what’s left of the month.

Another fascinating event happening in Moscow these days is Moscow Design Week (October 11- 16). This annual festival of Design with capital D has opened its many doors for the second time with the aim of creating a platform for design in Russia and to set international business standards within the industry along with supporting business and friendship worldwide. Exhibitions, installations, workshops, presentations, talks… the list of events within MDW 2011 is huge. Visit their Facebook page or the website: http://www.moscowdesignweek.ru for more information.

Kiev, Ukraine

Surprise, surprise! Kiev Fashion Days changed their name and, I guess, orientation as well and is now to be called Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Kiev. As there is still a good week left until its opening, I’m wondering if they hide another ace up their sleeve.

As usual there will be many foreign guests coming to the event: Jean Pierre-Braganza, Yvan Rodic, Valerie Steele, etc.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Fashion Week has already started and runway pictures and videos keep flowing in. UFW has a “daily digest” website where these up-to-date visual materials abound. For example, click here to see Poustovit detail photos.
