Ukrainian Fashion Week S/S 2013: Day 3Shows of the third day of Ukrainian Fashion Week: Bevza, Artemklimchuk, Olena Dats

Bevza

Girls who are like boys who are like girls. For her Spring 2013 collection, Svetlana Bevza was inspired by the energy and carefree spirits of the young. Tomboys dressed in variations of the men’s dress shirt, pants and suspenders strutted down the catwalk, slightly reminiscent of the 60s fashion revolution.

L’UVE F/W 2012 Simulated Mind Teaser

(Ash Stymest).

Ukrainian Fashion Week S/S 2013: Day 2Shows of the second day of Ukrainian Fashion Week: Podolyan, Kamenskayakononova, Anna Bublik

Podolyan

When there will be no you and me, no living beings left on this planet at all, what will remain? Stardust (or ‘Dust’ for short) is the theme of the latest Podolyan collection. While the idea behind it might seem quite sad, the collection itself is bright and cheerful. Life is short, so take it easy!

Podolyan is not a color-blocking and print-mixing kind of designer. Whatever color he adds to his usual neutral palette becomes a statement, like the striking green below. Some of the outfits were covered with dust, which presented a nice contrast with clinical white.

Ukrainian Fashion Week S/S 2013: Day 1

Ukrainian Fashion Week S/S 2013: Day 1

The 31st Ukrainian Fashion Week kicked off today! Do you know what this number means? It means that UFW has been around for 15 years, longer than any fashion week in Russia! The amount of great designers in Ukraine is astounding (45 of them are showing at UFW alone), and I’m really amazed by the fact that Ukrainians didn’t have Vogue until recently.

Stay tuned for our daily reviews of the best Spring 2013 collections!

Poustovit

Poustovit show traditionally opened the fashion week, featuring sheer and printed silk dresses in a refreshing palette of white, coral and blue. While it seems that Lilia Poustovit’s signature shirt dress has spread to each and every collection at UFW, nobody can incorporate folk prints into modern designs better than her. Designer to Watch: Podolyan

Designer to Watch: Podolyan

One of Vladymyr Podolyan‘s favorite things is Rubik’s Cube – childhood’s inheritance, as the designer himself likes to say. It seems like the world’s most addictive puzzle had indeed a deep impact on his way of thinking, as the collections he shows in his hometown Kiev twice a year have a similar concept.

Clear lines, simple silhouettes and thoughtful details in their quiet elegance bring a sense of ‘urban zen’, but once you come closer and interact with a piece, you will see it mysteriously changing. Something that looks like a simple dress at first glance can turn out to be an intricately cut blouse, or you might find a red zipper on a black skirt.

Podolyan draws his inspiration from a wide range of subjects, from global, such as social issues in the digital age, to personal traits such as loneliness.  Maybe it is exactly his unconventional philosophy and approach to fashion that prompt him to produce such amazing shows as the Fall/Winter 2012-13 show.
